Old Testament Trinity
- The Hospitality of Abraham, gold foiled icon
on thin pressed wood with hook on the back side for hanging on wall.
SIZE: 15 3/4" tall x 13" width. Thickness of wood 1/8"
This icon is also known as The Hospitality of Abraham.
The icon portrays three angels seated around a table and features the same composition, colors, lines as Andrey Rublev's famous icon. Andrey Rublev is considered to be the greatest Russian iconographer.
Each of the angels has the same face and according to Christian apologists represents one of the Persons of the Holy Trinity. The angels foretold that when they returned in a year Sarah would be with child to which she laughed as she was an old woman at that time.
Rublev style refers to the icon painted by St. Andrey Rublev which omits Abraham and Sarah and the others in preparing their hospitality for the three visitors.
