of Christ. This is generally considered to be the "first" icon as it is believed to taken from the impression of Christ's face on a towel. There are two traditions of the origin of this icon. One that it was sent to King Agbar of Syria while Christ was alive and the other is it is Veronica's veil. In the nimbus are the letters "alpha" and "omega" - Christ the Beginning and the end. Verso:
