"Akathist" - an icon of the Virgin Mary, revered by the miraculous, is in the Assumption Church of the Athos Zograf monastery.
Icon refers to the iconographic type of Hodegetria. The god-child is depicted on the left hand of the Theotokos with a blessing hand and a folded scroll in her left hand.
About the first miracle, which glorified the icon, the Athos Patericon reports. After the conclusion of the Union of Lyons in 1274, Western European troops carried out a series of military campaigns against the Byzantine Empire and in one of them the invasion of the troops affected Athos. According to the legend of Paterik, the solitary elder of the Zograf monastery during the prayer from the icon of the Virgin was the voice that the monastery would be besieged and the brothers would suffer martyrdom. The Elder informed other inhabitants about this. 26 elders together with the abbot, locked themselves in the monastery tower and refused to accept the union were burned alive.
Survivors of the monastery in the mountains, returning to the ruined monastery, under the ruins and ashes of the conflagration, a miracle-working image was unharmed, warning the elder of the danger. Mindful of this warning, the icon is also called "Predvozvestitelnitsa".
Celebration on October 23 ( October 10 in the old style).
