Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church is ordinarily received by Orthodox Christians who are in communion with the Church and have prepared according to the practice of their parish.
Why is Communion not generally open to everyone? In Orthodox understanding, receiving the Eucharist expresses an existing unity of faith and sacramental life. It is therefore more than a gesture of welcome.
Can a visitor still attend the service? Yes. Non-Orthodox visitors are generally welcome to attend Orthodox worship, even though they do not receive the Eucharist.
