The Orthodox Church does not make a person holy by declaring him or her a saint. Formal glorification recognizes a life already received by the Church as a witness to holiness in Christ.
What is considered? A person's life, faith, reputation for holiness, enduring veneration, writings or witness, and other evidence may be examined. Procedures differ among local Orthodox Churches.
Are miracles always required? Reports of miracles may accompany devotion, but holiness is not reduced to a numerical miracle requirement.
