Intercessory prayer means bringing other people before God in prayer. Orthodox Christians pray for family and friends, the sick, travelers, those in danger, civil authorities, the suffering, enemies, and the departed.
Do I need special words? No. A simple prayer using a person's name can be enough. Prayer books and liturgical services also provide established forms.
Why submit names at church? In many parishes, names of Orthodox Christians are submitted for commemoration in connection with the Divine Liturgy or other services. Local practice should be followed.
Can Christians pray for enemies? Yes. Prayer for enemies is one of the most demanding expressions of Christ's command to love beyond personal preference.
