The Dormition Fast is a fasting period before the feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos. It is a relatively short but traditionally strict season of prayer and preparation.
What is the focus of the fast? The season directs attention toward repentance, prayer, and the Church's commemoration of the falling asleep of the Mother of God.
Do all people follow the same food rule? Pastoral practice takes account of health and personal circumstances, so questions about an individual fasting rule are best discussed with a priest.
The feast is introduced in What Is the Dormition of the Theotokos?.
