Orthodox Christianity affirms meaningful human freedom while also teaching that every good thing depends upon God's grace.
Does God force people to believe or obey? No. Human response and responsibility remain real.
Does grace compete with freedom? Orthodox theology commonly speaks of synergy, or cooperation, to describe human response to divine grace without suggesting that salvation is achieved independently of God.
The relationship between divine care and human action is discussed in What Is Divine Providence?.
