The crowning is one of the most recognizable parts of an Orthodox wedding. Crowns are placed upon the bride and groom as the Church prays for their married life.
What do the crowns mean?
Royal imagery is part of the symbolism, but the crowns also point toward responsibility, self-giving, and sacrifice for one another.
Are all Orthodox wedding crowns the same?
No. Different Orthodox cultures use different forms while preserving the same sacramental meaning.
