Pentecost celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles fifty days after Pascha. It is one of the major feasts of the Orthodox Church.
What happened at Pentecost?
According to the Acts of the Apostles, the disciples were gathered when the Holy Spirit came upon them, empowering their proclamation of the Gospel to people of many languages.
Why are churches sometimes decorated with greenery?
In many Orthodox traditions, green vestments, branches, or fresh foliage symbolize life and the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.
Why does Pentecost move every year?
Its date is calculated from Pascha, so it moves with the Paschal calendar.
