Theophany celebrates the Baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River by Saint John the Baptist.
Why is it called Theophany? The feast reveals the Holy Trinity: the Son stands in the Jordan, the Spirit descends in the form of a dove, and the Father's voice is heard.
Why is water blessed? The Great Blessing of Waters proclaims that Christ enters creation and sanctifies it.
The feast belongs to the Twelve Great Feasts.
