In many Orthodox cultures, a Christian receiving a priest's or bishop's blessing may kiss his right hand.
Why the right hand? The priest uses his hand to bless, handle the Holy Gifts, and perform sacramental ministry. The gesture honors that ministry rather than treating the clergyman as personally superior.
Is everyone required to do it? Customs vary, and visitors should not feel pressured to imitate an unfamiliar practice.
