What Is the Little Entrance in the Orthodox Divine Liturgy?

Home » What Is the Little Entrance?

The Little Entrance is a procession with the Holy Gospel during the Divine Liturgy. In contemporary parish practice it takes place during the first part of the service.

Why is the Gospel carried? The Gospel Book represents the proclamation and presence of Christ's teaching among His people.

Is it the same as the Great Entrance? No. The Great Entrance later carries the prepared Eucharistic gifts toward the altar.
