A Paraklesis is a service of supplication or intercession used in Orthodox Christian worship. It is especially associated with prayers asking the intercession of the Theotokos.
When is it served? It may be offered in times of illness, difficulty, need, or thanksgiving. Particular forms are also used during the Dormition Fast in many traditions.
Is the Theotokos being worshiped? No. The service asks for her prayers, while worship is offered to God.
